UO’s ‘OregonBILDS’ Program
a+a Studio studio artist, Dee Etzwiler, created two works of art for a University of Oregon (UO) ‘OregonBILDS’ house that was designed and built by UO students for low-income occupants. The UO students incorporated sustainable design practices and used affordable, residential materials to build the house. Dee worked with the Program’s Director to create abstract, uplifting works of art that responded to the open, living area of the house. In keeping with the surrounding affordable building materials, the artwork was professionally printed on a recyclable, low-cost material.
“I highly recommend a+a Studio. The two works of art Dee created for a house that my students designed and built blend in perfectly with the home’s contemporary design. The pieces respond to the surrounding colors and materials of the building, and they compliment one another. They are exactly what I had hoped to install for the Tour of Homes. Dee’s choice of printing on a low-cost material align with my program’s mission and philosophy (and budget). Dee is very professional to work with and her architecture background is a big plus.” — ROBERT THALLON, Associate Professor, Director, University of Oregon’s ‘OregonBILDS Program’
